Many higher education marketers would benefit from taking a glance at this infographic, but only for a quick moment. With the U.S. unemployment rate holding steady at 8.1%, it’s easy for any marketer to get discouraged. This infographic points out some important things higher education marketers should know, which are lack of experience and lack of available experienced applicants are two reasons why companies have difficulty filling jobs.
Employers having difficulty finding skilled applicants need to get creative about the way they’re trying to find those applicants. Traditional “sales” and “marketing” skills are often incorporated into other educational programs, so focusing on skills outlined in the candidate’s resume instead of what their degree is in is a good strategy.
It’s also time for higher education marketers to step up their game, especially in the U.S. where students are becoming weary of higher education and going straight into the workforce. Students want to make sure they’re getting a good return on their educational investment, just like higher education marketers want to make sure they’re getting a good return on their ad spend.
Higher education marketers, take a look at the infographic above one more time and answer these questions:
Does your school have a great engineering program?
Does your school have great skilled trade programs?
You might want to start advertising those programs.
